Protect your teeth from decay with dental sealants
Everyone knows that brushing and flossing is the best way to stop tooth decay from spreading in your teeth. Unfortunately, the rough chewing surface on your molars offers plenty of space for bacteria to hide. Dr. Diem Do offers dental sealants for kids and adults to keep pathogenic bacteria out of your teeth and prevent cavities.
Benefits of dental sealant
Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children. Nearly half of the kids in the US have at least one cavity in their baby teeth, and over 90% of adults have dealt with some amount of dental caries. Dental sealants provide long-lasting protection against tooth decay, and children without dental sealants have an average of three times as many cavities as children with dental sealants.
Dental sealant is a thin, protective coating usually applied to the chewing surface of molars. The sealant is flowable, and as it dries, it covers tiny cracks and fissures that bacteria can hide in. Once it dries in place, it can keep bacteria at bay by making your teeth easier to clean. Dental sealants are most effective for the first two years after treatment and will reduce the risk of cavities for up to five years.
BEFORE AND AFTER RESULTS

How dental sealant procedure works
Your teeth will need to be cleaned thoroughly to remove any bacteria before a dental sealant treatment. Most patients receive sealant after a routine dental cleaning. Dr. Do will apply the dental sealant to the nooks and crannies on the chewing surface of your teeth. These areas are more susceptible to tooth decay because bits of food can become trapped in them, and the bristles of your toothbrush are too large to remove them.
Once the sealant is in place, it will harden and form a protective layer to keep bits of food and bacteria out of your teeth. The process is painless, and you can resume your normal eating habits as soon as you leave the office. The sealant may take a couple of days to get used to, and it may feel like you are chewing something between your teeth.
